A Serious Golf Course Has Level Tee Boxes

Having an irregular tee box can dramatically impact a player’s performance by causing them to overthink or, worse, miscalculate their swing. As a result, it can affect their overall satisfaction with a course. Over time, without proper maintenance through tee leveling, several things can cause a rough tee box (and, thus, require leveling):

  • It has become domed/sloped – generally due to improper compaction when built
  • It has become dished – the current fill material below the tee is sinking or the box has repeatedly not been edged properly
  • It is bumpy – too many divot repairs, part of the natural course of play
  • It is uneven – A repair done to part of the tee, possibly with too much loam, or an unskilled raker

A Serious Golf Course Has Level Tee Boxes

Old methods of repairing tees often meant completely reconstructing the box, thus taking it out of commission for a large chunk of time. In the process, courses were forced to rely on heavy machinery, resulting in inconsistent compaction. However, a new method, laser leveling, can easily and affordably keep the tee boxes as beautiful as the rest of the course.

Using light-weight, laser-controlled machines to level can do the work, more precisely, in a fraction of the time. Although the goal it have a flat, even tee box, a 0% grade is not the goal. To ensure proper drainage on low-cut grass, a 1% grade is recommended. Thanks to the laser controlled machines, however, the result is an even surface (+- 1/4 inch) so the grade is not visibly noticed by, or distracting to, a golfer.

In addition to making the tee boxes look fantastic, laser leveling saves money on labor (one skilled machine operator). It saves time, as well, since the repaired tee boxes are usable, faster (average of about an hour). Future maintenance is also a snap, with minimal annual top dressing (also with a laser). And, perhaps most importantly, many players feel restored, laser-leveled tees actually play better than new. Not to mention, well-maintained tee boxes are a frequently talked about feature.

Overall, laser leveling makes both current repairs and future maintenance cheaper, faster, and easier. The result will be a beautiful course and, more importantly, one golfers talk about, from start to finish. Cart Paths: An Important Element of Every Successful Golf Course

Golf courses roll, turn, and twist; they are hilly, flat, have ponds, and, often times, areas of forest. The intricacy of golf courses makes the game fun. It brings new levels of depth to every shot; every hole is a different experience. But, all of these twists and turns and ups and downs make having a solid cart path of vital importance to any golf course. Over our years of working with courses, we have seen many courses abandon their cart paths, leaving them cracked and crumbled. We are hoping that this article shifts your attention to the importance of having an adequate cart path system.Cart Paths: An Important Element of Every Successful Golf Course

Navigating the Terrain

Cart paths have a single goal in mind; conveniently getting golfers across the course. Being able to ride a golf cart across a beautifully constructed concrete path may not seem like it’s the most important part of the golfing experience, but when it isn’t there it’s very noticeable.

Protecting the Course

Every golfer knows the “Cart Path Only” sign, but not every golfer knows why it’s there. Cart paths help protect the golf course from the golf carts as well as protect golfers from the course. This usually happens when the course it too wet, though high-traffic seasons can also warrant it. Cart paths allow you to protect your course and maintain balanced traffic during peak seasons.

Why Fusion Golf?

Whether you need rolled or blocked curbing, Fusion Golf has the expertise to handle any cart construction project. We specialize in golf course construction, and that gives us insight into how and where to lay cart paths on golf courses. Regular paving companies may be able to provide concrete and labor, but they don’t have the industry experience and know-how when it comes to the design of a golf course. Over the years, we have worked with countless American golf courses as well as dozens domestically. From Germany and Sweden to China, we have worked on projects across the globe. We live and breathe golf courses, and, luckily, we also happen to know a thing or two about paving. We ensure that every cart path has proper drainage as well as adequate thickness and appropriate subgrade compaction. Not to mention, our cart paths are simply beautiful. This is one of those situations where we are going to let our pictures speak for themselves.

Golf Gourse Construction Projects

The heyday of golf course construction was 10, 20 and 30 years ago when it was easier to get large swaths of land in the suburbs. Today, it is more difficult and more expensive to get a golf course fully built. That means that older courses need more refurbishing and reconstruction to keep them fresh, new, innovative and captivating. At the same time, brand new courses need to use their resources efficiently and also build the most creative, inspiring facilities in their region. That attracts members, daily golfers and much more.

Golf Gourse Construction Projects

Fortunately, there are certain contractors that are expert at creating these type of projects. Fusion Golf is a top international golf construction firm that has experience with hundreds of different projects in the US and all around the world.

New bunkers and bridges are using different materials and designs than in the old days. They also are using designs that can stand the test of time, so that they will not need to be changed every few years. Courses need to bring on teams that have the knowledge and experience to implement these changes. Over the long-term, this saves both time and money. It also helps bring new members to the club or course.

Fusion has a deep understanding of how to do bunker renovations, bridge constructions, greens, sand pits, water traps and all manner of other golf course variations. They have a team that has experience with courses that are built in different climates, different wind and rain patterns, different geographies and different needs.

Fusion Golf also has the local relationships and manpower to get the job done when it needs to be done. They are on time and under budget.

The Importance of Proper Golf-Course Bunker Construction

It’s a staggering prospect to understand what goes into bunker construction, and the ways to properly create a well functioning bunker for your game. But luckily, we have some tips and info that will hopefully enlighten you on what’s needed for your bunker, but more importantly, why hiring well-trained professionals is an integral part of improving the quality of your golf-course:

The Importance of Proper Golf-Course Bunker Construction

1. Drainage

You want your bunker to be dry and not at all impeding with the game. Rain, snow and various elements can impair and cause problems with soil, creating buildup and clogs. In order to rid yourself of this surface-level buildup, a drainage system is not only necessary, it’s an absolutely critical aspect in keeping a bunker free from potential destruction.

2. Bunker Liners

These bunker liners exist to function primarily as protectors of sand. The chances that those clogs and build-ups previously mentioned will do harm can be decreased if a quality liner is used. It prevents soil from contaminating or eroding the sand.

3. Sand Maintenance

You want your bunker to be not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. In order to achieve that nice, rich-sand look, there are a few maintenance measures that are taken:

  • Properly raking your sand often for a clean look
  • Keep sand off the edge; this results in a poorly defined bunker
  • Repair divets that have damaged soil

These are just a few methods that keep bunkers on your golf course looking professional and pristine. If you’d like to start construction on a golf-course bunker, or if you’re looking to overhaul one, please contact us today for principled and professional construction.

Importance of Cart Paths

Importance of Cart Paths

Not all golfers are PGA tour professionals who have a caddy to carry their clubs and five hours to complete a round, walking the course and making sure that they get every single shot exactly right. Thus, a well-constructed cart path is important in ensuring smooth transport around the course for the average golfer.

Like an umpire in baseball or a referee in basketball, a cart path may not get much credit when it is doing its job correctly, but it sure is noticeable when it starts to show cracks and jar carts and their riders as they move along. Fusion Golf is able to offer concrete path construction that fits the needs of any and every golf course.

Along with constructing paths, the experts at Fusion Golf can also construct any kind of curb to accompany the path at different segments, whether it be rolled curbing or block curbing. A well-built cart path enhances the beauty of any course and keeps operations running smoothly, creating a flawless customer experience.

Fusion Golf also understands that golf takes place all over the world in many different types of climates, and has the technology and expertise to adapt their cart paths to higher levels of rain or other adverse conditions. Strip drains are an effective way to quickly remove standing water from any surface, which is vitally important for keeping a golf course in playable condition. These can be installed along with any path in order to maintain a beautiful course in any kind of weather.

When Does a Bunker Require Renovation?

Although sand bunkers only take up about a small portion of your course, they take up a large chunk of resources to maintain. However, a course without bunkers isn’t really a course at all, but you can cut down on the manpower it takes to keep up with maintenance through a bunker renovation. Yet, when does a bunker require renovation?

When Does a Bunker Require Renovation?

One of the largest factors in deciding if and when a bunker needs a renovation is its location. Does it get a lot of traffic? If it does, this causes it to have a shorter life cycle than other bunkers with owners having to clean out contaminated sand near every five years. Furthermore, it is not just sand that needs to be considered, you need to check to make sure there isn’t a build-up of silt in the drainage lines or contamination in the stone backfilling. Any of these can cause the bunker to retain water and in general look a little less than stellar.

While an ugly looking bunker is a reason enough to decide to renovate, there is one sign that you cannot put off and that is eroding edges. Bunkers tend to expand over time where the sand encroaches and it can start to warp the profile. While this can make it somewhat dangerous to walk near for golfers, it can also affect your green, and a patchy green is a very last thing you want. This is why bunkers should be renovated, at most, every ten years. No matter how diligent your maintenance team is, bunkers deteriorate, it is just what happens.

When Tragedy Strikes: Golf Course Natural Disaster Restoration

Golfing, over the years, has become more and more of a precision sport. To keep players coming back, this means maintaining smooth surfaces, creating enticing bunkers, and keeping level trees (to name a few). With this exacting level of consideration, losing a course to a storm (whether it is a hurricane, tropical storm, or flooding) is devastating to not only the course but the community as a whole. In a matter of hours, years of care and hard work is gone. Rebuilding is good for not only the economics of a neighborhood, but also it’s moral.

When Tragedy Strikes: golf course natural disaster restoration

Since many golf courses proudly supply some of the best real estate surrounding them, the course acts as not only a business but also an elaborate extension of landscaping for these homes. As a result, the design needs to be functional for the course, but absolutely beautiful as a backyard. And the work should be completed as quickly as possible.

This is no easy task. Imagine watching years of old-growth get uprooted in such a rapid and unexpected window of time. There will be not only debris clean-up and removal but also rebuilding and replanting. All of this must be done with the goal of providing as much of the same feel as the course that is being replaced. Fusion Golf LTD understands this.

It may be an opportunity to change the play and feel of a course or replace it exactly as-is. The main goal is to use as much technology as possible to do this quickly and efficiently. For example, using laser controlled automated grading machines, renovated bunker technology, and hydroseeding to speed up the process and maintain that precision. Using a mix of saplings and relocated, larger trees can create the illusion of an older course as the newer trees catch up. Whatever effect you are trying to achieve, Fusion Golf LTD is here to help restore your golf course as the community symbol and economic gem it is. Contact us, today, for more information!
